TEMPO.CO, Jakarta –
Deputy chairman of the Golkar Party Fadel Muhammad confirmed there was a
meeting recently between Golkar Party chairman Aburizal Bakrie and
Prabowo Subianto, the chief patron of the Great Indonesia Movement
(Gerindra) Party, at Tower Bakrie in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on
Wednesday, May 14, 2014.
“Yes, there was a meeting there,” Fadel told Tempo on Thursday, May 15, 2014.
Fadel, however, was tight-lipped on the results of the meeting. Earlier, it was reported that Prabowo and Ical—Aburizal’s popular name—had alternately paid each other a visit at their private residences in what was seen as possible coalition talks. Both parties, however, had seemed to have drifted apart lately.
“I think cooperation with the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) is more feasible,” Fadel said.
“If the PDI-P and the Golkar Party have a coalition, the governance will be strong,” he said while showing the number of regional chiefs hailing from both parties.
