- President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has officially appointed Chairul
Tanjung to replace Hatta Rajasa as the Coordinating Minister for
Economic Affairs.
"I appointed Mr. Chairul Tanjung to become the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs. He has the skill, the ability and the commitment to encourage the country's development. Mr. Chairul Tanjung was not in the cabinet in the last two years. He has been the head of the National Economic Committee [KEN]," said President SBY at a press conference on Friday, May 16, 2014.
Chairul was appointed following Hatta Rajasa's resignation from the position to become Prabowo Subianto's running mate for the presidential election on July 9, 2014.
According to SBY, Chairul has contributed in solving economic issues and also participates in formulating the Master Plan for Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Development (MP3EI). "KEN consists of academics and practitioners. I see that Mr. Chairul can integrate them even though he is not a policy maker," said SBY.
