Jakarta, Lawmakers to Hold Talks on Island Reclamation Project
TEMPO.COJakarta - The DKI Jakarta administration and Commission IV within the House of Representatives attended a meeting for talks over the reclamation project plan for islands to the northern shores of Jakarta and the plan to build the Giant Sea Wall.

DKI Jakarta Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo ensured that the budget for reclamation of 17 islands along the northern shores of Jakarta would not be derived from the regional budget as the city has collaborated with the private sector.

Jokowi added that the permits for this island reclamation project have been issued from when Jakarta’s previous governor, Fauzi Bowo, was still in charge. Out of the 17 proposed island reclamations, only one was approved by Fauzi Bowo.

The governor said this island reclamation project is hoped to be able to provide benefits and advantages for the surrounding community, especially fishermen. Aside from that, the project is also linked to the construction of the Giant Sea Wall because the city’s major plan is actually turning North Jakarta into a water front city.
