Minister Points Out Accident-Prone Train Crossings
TEMPO.COJakarta - Transportation Minister Bambang S. Ervan, said that there are 44 train crossing points in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi, which are prone to accident.
"All of these crossing points have potential for accidents. That's why they have to be transformed into a flyover or underpass," he told Tempo on Monday, December 9, 2013.
Bambang stated that currently, there are several crossing points in the Jabodetabek area where accidents often happen, for example, the train crossings in Cipinang, East Jakarta, Rawa Buntu, Serpong and Pasar Minggu.
In addition, he stated that the trains crossing located on the Bintaro Permai street in Pesanggrahan, is also prone to accident.
"[The crossing] is prone to accident because many people trespassees [over the crossing gate]," he said.
In response to the recent train crash that occurred in Bintaro, Bambang explained that the accident happenned because of a truck driver who violates the crossing gate.
