KPK: We are No Angels
TEMPO.COJakarta - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Abraham Samad, stated that the KPK only consists of ordinary people, not angels as expected by the people. He admitted that there are a lot of corruption cases affecting KPK members, especially when they have to investigate or determine a suspect status against old friends.
"Just try to imagine when someone you know must be investigated because of their actions. There is no grudge or bad intention from us when deciding someone as a suspect," Abraham said in front of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and state officials at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, December 9, 2013.
Abraham claimed that KPK always works according to standard procedures and prevailing laws, and treats everyone as equal before the law. He stated that people must not use their position, family background and influence to intervene with KPK's duties on investigating and determining a suspect.
"KPK cannot be influenced by anyone. KPK cannot be forced to arrest A but not arrest B," he said.
