Jokowi, Ahok Get Together at Megawati's Home
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo, a.k.a. Jokowi and his deputy Basuki Tjahaja Purnama a.k.a. Ahok were seen at the home of Megawati Soekarnoputri yesterday. Jokowi arrived at around 11:45 pm while Ahok was apparently already inside.
It wasn’t exactly an unusual sight given the fact that Jokowi often visit the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) chairwoman's house, which is located just half a kilometer from his office.
But this particular visit was a bit different, as--in addition to Ahok--there were other people that came. Among those guests were politician Ribka Tjiptaning, activist Teten Masduki and Komaruddin Hidayat; rector of the Syarif Hidayatullah Islamic University.
At around 14:30 pm, Jokowi and Ahok met reporters that were swarming outside. "If we had known there were journalists we would've have invited to eat with us," said Basuki teasing the dozens of reporters.
Ahok said that the get-together was a relaxed one, and that they were only chatting, therefore there was no need to request permission from Gerindra Party's Board of Trustees chairman Prabowo Subiyanto. "We're just chatting. The theme is cooking," Ahok said, before he and Jokowi got into their cars and leave the premises to attend the Carnival of Cultures--the closing event of the World Palace.
